Today is the last day of 2009. Tomorrow brings a new year!  At MedSave we are excited to see what the new year brings us! Looking back at the last year it is so exciting to see all of the positive things that took place at our pharmacy. I want to share some of the positive changes and additions we had in 2009.

• We hired two new pharmacists, John Naegeli & Kimberly Ames! We are so honored to have John & Kim as part of our team. They are a true asset to our pharmacy.
• Richard became a Certified Asthma Educator.  Richard can now help people manage their asthma and make an asthma action plan for them.
• We partnered with Cathy Morud,  Nurse Practitioner. Cathy is available for appointments at MedSave every Thursday.
• We parntered with Sarah Diehl, Clinical Social Worker.  Sarah’s mental health areas of concentration are depression, grief & loss, eating disorders, anxiety, women’s issues, elderly & aging, and life transitions.
• We remodeled! We remodeled our basement which was one big room into a break room and four offices. We also did a bit of remodeling to the upstairs giving it a warm feel.
• We expanded! We moved our Long Term Care services to a new location as we found we were growing out of our current space. Our new Closed Door Long Term Care Pharmacy is on Anne Street and this is where we fill the prescriptions for our homes.
• We purchased an automatic counting machine making us more efficent and effective for filling prescriptions.
• We were awarded the 2009 Business of the Year! This was such an honor to receive this award and we are so pleased to play a positive role in our community and we will continue to do so!

Looking back I could go on and on about all of things that our team and pharmacy has accomplished in 2009. It is such an honor to be part of the MedSave team and I look forward to see what 2010 has in store for us. Thank you to all of our wonderful customers and friends for a great year!

At MedSave we know the importance of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and would like to educate you on how it can benefit you or a loved one.  MTM is very important for people who are taking multiple medications including over the counter products. We want to make sure that you are getting the most from your medication. Ask yourself these questions:

• Why am I taking these medications?
• Are my medications working the way they should?
• Am I taking them in the right order and at the right time of day?
• Are my medications interacting with each other?
• Are all of my medications really making me feel better?

It is important to know the answers to all of these questions and we want to make sure that:

• You are only taking the medication you need.
• You are taking the correct amount of medicine at the right time.
• Your medications are not interacting with each other.
• You are not spending more than you need for your medications.

A pharmacist at MedSave will meet with you one-on-one to review all of your medications (prescription, over-the-counter, herbal and nutritional) to ensure that your current drug therapy is both safe and effective.

We are going to be having a delicious assortment of cookies along with hot apple cider, coffee and CASH drawings. Bring in your child or grandchild and they will receive a kids Christmas goodie bag!

We are also collecting food for the Bemidji Food Shelf. Now is a time when the food shelf can really use our help for the families and children who are in need. If you bring in an item next week during our open house you will receive a MedSave Christmas Dollar for each item (Limit of 5 Christmas Dollars). MedSave Christmas Dollars can be used on Over the Counter products.

With the many services that we offer at MedSave we were starting to run out of room. Not only do we have our general pharmacy services but we also have our compounding lab, long term care services, and have partnered with a  certified nurse practitioner, licensed clinical social worker, and  registered dietitian. With all of these wonderful services we offer to our community and the surrounding area we decided now was the best time to expand our long term care services to a new location. As of Nov. 30th our long term care services are located at 615 Anne Street, Suite B (next to Mi Rancho). This will be a closed door pharmacy that is used to fill the medications for assisted living and long term care homes. We are very excited about the expansion and look forward to serving our homes more efficiently and the possibility of working with new homes.
